This piece is from a set of 6 pieces for solo guitar, fusing elements of traditional classical guitar music with contemporary styles. They each aim to convey a different aspect of the concept of home - Vesper Flights, the 5th piece in the suite, is inspired by my favourite bird, the swift, and named after their nightly ascents far up into the heavens. Swifts are migratory and spend most of their lives in flight, which offers an interesting viewpoint on the idea of home. Will McNicol is an incredible guitarist and composer, and I was lucky enough to have him perform my suite! https://www.willmcnicol.co.uk/

Jack DaviesAs I wondered the streets near my old home in Birmingham I always loved reading the 'Dad Joke of the Week' which someone wrote on a whiteboard outside their house. It was such a good idea! So I thought I'd do the same, but with a guitar-related theme - thus, 'Guitar Song of the Week', which has now begun! As the name suggests, each week I'll put up one of my favourite guitar tunes - it could be classical, blues, metal, anything, but will be by more underground/lesser known artists, and will always be something I think is worth hearing. I'll update this blog with each track, and add my thoughts on each. Suggestions are very much welcome (a suggestion box is coming soon). Archives
